Acting Members
We have approximately 45 members of Stagelights at the present time, ranging in age from 4yrs up to quite high.
The cost of full membership is £10 per child and £25 per adult per year. This allows participation in all productions that we do without any other fees payable.
Our numbers fluctuate from year to year as some people leave us and others join. We are always very pleased to welcome new members, especially adults, and very especially men, young and old.
We would reiterate here that anyone wishing to join us doesn't need to have any experience of the stage, although if you did have some that would be an advantage, but rest assured we welcome everyone.
We do need two consent forms that the Parents of the Children must sign and hand in. To print these forms off please click on the button below
At the present time we are extremely lucky to have Rachel Williams as our Musical Director, making sure we all sing from the same 'Song sheet'.

ME? - A "Dramaholic"? According to my friends and family...more like a Drama Queen..... At 3 years old dancing classes started. Family theatre trips to pantos - circuses - family sing alongs around the piano - Blackpool tower ballroom - dancing to the Victor Sylvester Band on annual holidays. A wonderful drama teacher entered me into a play for the 'Festival of Britain' 1950. I played 'Aunt Popsy' a 70 year old Grandmother who poisoned most of her family.... It was a comedy! I was bitten by the performing bug! Who'd have thought that in The Stagelights 'Cabaret Weekend' now at 70 years old myself, I would revert back to a 6 year old in a duet with John "6 going on 7". I have loved every production I've been in over the years in various drama clubs, none so much as helping to run The Stagelights. Long before I came to live in Bristol from Manchester I had my first professional role as a babe in 'Babes in the Wood' at Bristol Hippodrome, for the season - 15 bob a week - WOW! but I was only 11 years old. The past has been great in Am-Dram for me, the future - always a surprise around the corner, so keep at it Stagelights, we have a great club - Look to the future and enjoy!
Margaret Waller
I have been involved with Amateur Dramatics for 22 years and very much enjoy performing in plays, musicals and pantomimes. I joined the Stagelights in 2003 and am very pleased I did as it is a very happy group, so I hope to continue for many years to come.
Marlene Cockell
I would say; if amateur dramatics is something you have been thinking about for a while but aren't sure, and you feel you would really enjoy being part of a drama group, then this is the one for you. My first impression was that there is no sniggering or putting down, and it has remained that way since I started over 2 years ago. I say "Go for it!"
Shelley O'Callaghan
Shelly joined the club so as to take a part in Snow White, and has enjoyed her role as Courtier very much. She didn't tell her husband, Ricky, that she was actually playing a role in the Pantomime so it would be a big surprise to him when he watched it. It took quite a bit for her and her children, Luke and Amelia to keep quiet about it and not to "let the cat out of the bag." She is looking forward to being in more plays and variety shows in the future.

Mandy Stone
I have just recently joined The stagelights, mainly due to my friend Shelly above, convincing me that I really ought to. Well I thought that I'd give it a go and was asked to play Kathy Metcalf in 'Who Killed the Director'. I was so nervous at the first rehearsal that I thought I was going to be sick, but each rehearsal since I have got more confident and I think I just might be starting to enjoy the experience now. It is the first time I have ever done anything like this and hope it wont be the last.
Sam Veitch
Sam has at last joined us, the last member of the family to do so. And very welcome she is too. Sam is very experienced in dance and song and will bring a great deal to the over all success of our shows.

John Hicks
I've been involved with Amateur dramatics for 39 years and have loved every minute of it but the 2 most enjoyable things I have ever done is 1. To get The Stagelights' up and running, to see it grow year on year into a great theatre club, friendly and not at all cliquey [we don't have any Prima Donnas] and 2. To write a full length pantomime and to see it performed and be a success. I enjoy all aspects of the Theatre and have stage-managed 11 productions, Directed 23 shows, plays and Pantomimes, and appeared in well over 30 full length productions. Not to mention being involved in many ways in a myriad of smaller shows and productions
Rod Cresswell
I have been with the Stagelights from the beginning, I started helping out with Front of House duties and eventually found myself getting involved in many different aspects of the club and was then coerced onto the stage for the 2003 Variety show. I enjoy the singing and dancing and have enjoyed the roles I have been lucky enough to get so far. I think the most fun was the Eunuch I played in 'Arabian nights'.
Mark Veitch
I joined the Stagelights in the winter of 2004 to play the Genie in the 2005 Panto. In the Spring of 2005 I was given the part of Victor, the lead role in a comedy play, 'Housekeeper Wanted', It was a large part!! I was a bit nervous about having to learn so many lines and fitting it in around my work as well, but the show was a great a success and gave me the confidence to take on the role of 'Buttons' in 'Cinderella'. I am currently rehearsing in the role of 'Chief Weasel' in 'Wind in the Willows'.
Peter Davies.
I am pleased to join 'The Stagelights'. I first got into 'Am-drams' at the age of 16, That was back home in Suffolk (Lowestoft Players) , I was with them for a few years, in the chorus and small roles in Pantomimes and musicals. I enjoy all aspects of the theatre, from behind the curtain and in the Audience. My wife and I often enjoy a visit to the Hippodrome and the playhouse at Weston. I am looking forward to spending a very happy time with 'The Stagelights'.
Joanna Claydon
I joined The Stagelights in 2007 with my two children, Findlay and Poppy. We were involved straight away with the pantomime 'Sinbad The Sailor' which we really enjoyed. I love having the opportunity to take part in something with my children so that I feel as though we are working as a team. I have never been involved with any theatre groups before, but I'm finding it great fun doing lots of new things and meeting lots of new folk.
Sue Humphris
Sue came along to have a look at what we are doing and to meet the gang, and before she could say "Oh yes it is!" she was roped in to Sinbad the Sailor. Keep looking in and her own words will appear here soon
Merle Willmott
A similar story for Merle, as she came along with Sue to meet us all and wasn't allowed to leave without agreeing to be in Sinbad the Sailor. We have found it amazing, what can be done with a candle, a pewter tankard and a finger print........ Merle's own words will appear here very soon so pop back again later to meet her properly.
Cheryl Wallen
Cheryl has just joined us and is loooking forward to her first show with us, Roaring Twenties. Her own words will appear here soon, so please pop back later
Neil Stanley
Neil has joined us to take the part of 'Granny' in Red Riding Hood. He has played several parts for us in a few of our Pantomimes over the years and it is always a great joy to have him with us when he can.

I have always enjoyed performing ever since I joined a community choir when I was 8 years old, but playing one of the Ugly Sisters in Cinderella at school in year 8 showed me that I have a passion for acting as well; funny what women's clothes make you do! I have appeared in many pantos and cabaret evenings and so am very excited about joining the Stagelights and working with everyone in their productions.
