IN MEMORIAM

Phyllis Smith

very sadly passed away - 13/09/07 - After a long battle with Cancer.

We send our love and sympathies to her Partner, John

Phyllis was one of our founder members and was always there. She never missed one rehearsal, even when she was very ill with Cancer, coming along even if it was only for half an hour. Her resolve was one of incredible strength, She was an inspiration to all and will be sadly mjissed.

Phyllis will be remembered for many things, not least of all her wonderful singing voice, her warmth and kindness to everyone especially her devotion to the youngsters and members of The Stagelights.

Her love for animals was one of her greatest features, more latterly with her Poppy, (The Fat Cat) and Sydney her beloved bunny who used to rule the roost at lower Hanham Road before she and John moved to their beautiful new home at Uphill.

In Peace at Last! God Bless!

Geoff Walters

Geoff joined the Stagelights in 2004 and made a huge difference in a short space of time. A very fine pianist, he soon became a staunch member. He loved playing for us and especially for the young people, he never tired of them and would often be seen giving them impromptu piano lessons His ability to play almost anything that we asked of him was amazing especially as he always preferred to play without music. Geoff passed away very suddenly on Tuesday 25th July 2006 and is very sadly missed by all members of the Stagelights.

Just 2 weeks before he died I asked Geoff to write about 50 - 70 words about himself to enter on the new web site. Geoff being Geoff gave me a sheet with 3 options on for me to take my pick. I have written the three below, which will give you an excellent idea of just what Geoff was like. He wrote:-

Website Thorts

1.

Geoff is incredibly talented, has a ready wit, a devilish sense of humour and, (perhaps due to his superbly athletic physique) is loved by all of our Ladies. Not handsome, Geoff nevertheless has that craggy, masculine charm, (so adored by "the fair sex"), loves animals and is kind to old ladies. A wonderful chap. oh... and he plays the piano too.... (Magnificently, quite magnificently).

Too long? Maybe....

2.

"Ex president of the 'Revunions' revue group at Bristol University, I have directed & performed in many shows and Cabarets, writing songs and sketches, with some performed on television and at the Edinburgh Festival. A veteran Pub-Pianist, I am grateful that 'The Stagelights' younger members still tolerate my 'tinkling the ivories' when they perform."

Still too long?

How about....... ?

Geoff plays the Piano. (4 words)
