The Ship

This wonderful old Tudor Coaching Inn dates back to 1589. It stands on the A38 just 5 minutes from the M5 junction 14 (N) or 16 (S). It boasts many original features including oak beams, open fires and flagstone floors. It is set in 5 acres of rolling countryside and has beautiful gardens with Pagoda, water features etc. It stands some 20 feet from a Premier Travel Inn so there is a very short distance to roll or stagger when it is time to go to bed at the end of the night. There are plenty of car park spaces within the grounds. I have pre-booked 40 rooms for those wishing to stay over night. Although there is a lovely bar in the Ship Inn we will have the use of two very nice function rooms each with their own bar and facilities where the meals will be served. This year I am hoping to get the Shanty singers to come over to entertain us for the evening, and if they are able to I can guarantee a superb evening, one that will stay in your memories for a very long time.

Prices

For the 2009 Reunion to be announced in due course.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The 2008 prices are below

The cost of the whole evening was £27.00 which included a 4 course dinner. A Scilly fun quiz, and who knows what else during the course of the evening.

For those wishing to have overnight accommodation it will again be at the Premier Travel Inn -

- All rooms are now Non Smoking -

The price will be £00.00 per room (not per person) - and they comprise of large Double, Twin or Triple or 4 person rooms, all rooms are en suite and have tea and coffee making facilities. They all have balconies which over look the local Cricket ground and are nice and quiet especially in November (as long as there are no fireworks!!!!) Unfortunately single persons have to hire a room at £53.00 so if you are coming on your own and don't mind sharing a room, to keep your costs down let John know.

The triple rooms are for 2 adults and 1 child and the 4 person rooms are for 2 adults and 2 children still costing only £00.00

Directions from the Motor Way

Coming south on the M5

Exit at junction 14 and head south on the A38 towards Almondsbury. As you approach Alveston look out for the Premier Inn signs on the right hand side and turn in to the car park, drive around to the main buildings and park up. If you should miss this turning, fear not, for 35 yards further on are some traffic lights, turn right at these and go for a couple of hundred yards and turn right again, the Ship Inn is on your right, drive into the courtyard and park Up.

Coming North on the M5

Exit at Junction 16 and head for Thornbury on the A38. Once on the A38 you will eventually go through 2 sets of road traffic lights, After the second set, there is a car show room on the left, then a petrol station and then the turning on the left to the Premier Inn. Turn in here.

Coming along the M4

As you approach the M4/M5 junction move into the very left hand lane and keep moving left as more left hand lanes open up (which they will as you get very close to the junction). this will take you nicely around onto the M5 and by staying on the left you are in the correct lane to come off at Junction 16. As you approach the roundabout coming off from the Slip road move into the right hand lane, take the right hand exit off the roundabout towards Almondsbury/Thornbury onto the A38 - Once on the A38 you will eventually go through 2 sets of road traffic lights, After the second set, there is a car show room on the left, then a petrol station and then the turning on the left to the Premier Inn. Turn in here.

------------------------------

Just a thought, if you arrive early and like to visit Garden centres, there are two situated very close to the Ship Inn, one is the Thornbury-Wyvale on the A 38, about 2 minutes north of the Inn and the other, Almondsbury Garden Centre, is about 4 minutes south, as you head towards Bristol, just turn off to the right about 1/4 of a mile before the Motorway. They are both good but the Almondsbury is much bigger. Of course if you just like the countryside then there is plenty to see all around this area and some lovely views across to Wales and the two severn bridges.

Latest News & Information

21/11/08

Another brilliant evening has come and gone, and I think everyone enjoyed themsleves, I heard no complaints anyway. There were about 60 of us this year. Sadly my Cousins Pat & Eric and Barbara were unable to make it at the last minute and were missed, so hopefully they will be able to make it nex, t year.

It was wonderful to welcome so many new people this year and with any luck they will be able to come again. I wont start to mention anyone inparticular as I shall certainly miss someone out and I don't want to upset anyone, just know that it was wonderful to see you all, and I'm sorry that I didn't get to chat very much to many of you but the evening fairly flew by and by the time we started singing at 11.30. Many were starting to drift off to bed.

A chap called Ian Towers entertained us on the piano during the evening and was enjoyed by all I hope. I certainly felt he earned his money, and found I was able to sing along with most of what he played.

After Dinner a couple of quizzes were sent around and during the next 30 minutes or so all went quiet while the answers were written in and the pictures were pored over. Two bottles of Champagne were presented to the winners of each quizz and and two bottles of Bucks Fizz to the runners up.

Phill & Laurel Deason, who were on holiday, very kindly popped back into Penzance to pick up some wonderful fresh Soleil 'dor that Francis Hosken had sent over the day before on the chopper from Scilly for us so everyone could have some to take home. Thank you Phill.

When I thought the singing was going to start I surreptitiously went around and mentioned to a few and said don't all rush out together as I didn't want the pianist to be upset becaause everyone was leaving him, and within 5 minutes he was on his own..... But he was happy about it as he was finishing then anyway, so that was ok.

Just about all of us stayed the night at the Premier Inn, (only 6 didn't) just 10 yards from the Ship Inn so the next morning when we were all turning up for Breakfast a great atmosphere built up again and the reunion continued.

Thank you to all those of you who came along and made it such a success. I look forward to seeing you all again next year and hopefully a few more who couldn't make it this year.

If you'd like me to put you on next years list just drop me a line and I'll send you a reminder of the event nearer the time [around July/August]

Having the slides rattling away on the screen during the evening seemed quite popular and I can do a similar thing again next year if you would like me to but it would be even better if I could get some more pictures from some of you of people (even old pictures of yourselves) in Scilly past and present on either slides or sent to me over the internet so I can get them all put on a computer and screen them that way. I'm sure many of you have old pictures of your neighbours and friends as well as family that could be used. I wont require prints but it might be a nice idea if you could, put some of those on boards yourselves to bring along and display.I shall also endeavour to get a web cam link set up for those who can't make it to the reunion, but please don't think that that will be as good as not attending in person cos it wont......... hehe!

There will be a 'Scilly Quiz' in the form of a sheet of questions, for everyone to participate in if they so wish, during the course of the evening with prizes for the winners. If you have any other thoughts or suggestions please let me know asap
